Dean Bruner’s areas of teaching, research, and writing have been corporate finance, mergers and acquisitions, investing in emerging markets, financial crises, and innovation. His latest book, The Panic of 1907: Lessons Learned from the Market’s Perfect Storm, with Sean D. Carr, was published in 2007. Deals from Hell, focuses on failure in mergers and acquisitions. It was published in 2005. He also wrote Applied Mergers and Acquisitions, which was published in 2004. Bruner’s research has been published in journals such as Financial Management, Journal of Accounting and Economics, Journal of Applied Corporate Finance, Journal of Financial Economics, Journal of Financial and Quantitative Analysis, and Journal of Money, Credit, and Banking. Industrial corporations, financial institutions, and government agencies have retained him for counsel and training.
He has been on the faculty of the Darden School since 1982, and has been a visiting professor at various schools including Columbia, INSEAD, and IESE. FHe holds the B.A. degree from Yale University and the M.B.A. and D.B.A. degrees from Harvard University. He has served the Darden School, professional groups, and community organizations in various positions of leadership.

Jay H. Bryson, Ph. D.
Global Economist – Wells Fargo Securities
Economics Group

Jay Bryson joined the company in 1998 to provide analysis on financial markets and macroeconomic developments in foreign economies. Prior to joining the company, Dr. Bryson was an economist in the Division of International Finance at the Federal Reserve Board in Washington, D.C. From 1989 to 1992, he was an assistant professor of economics at the University of Alabama. Dr. Bryson also has lectured on international economics and macroeconomics at the School for Advanced International Studies at Johns Hopkins University and at Georgetown University. He has published in academic and popular economic journals and his comments on the economy regularly appear in the Wall Street Journal, the New York Times and USA Today. He also makes frequent appearances on CNBC and Bloomberg TV. Dr. Bryson received his B.A. and Ph.D. degrees in economics from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill.


Tom Lacy
Managing Director – Robert W. Baird
Investment Banking

Tom Lacy is a member of Baird’s Consumer & Industrial and Financial Sponsor Coverage Groups. Since joining Baird in 1997, he has participated in transactions totaling over $10.0 billion. He has advised on LKQ’s acquisition of Keystone Automotive, the sale of AK Specialty Vehicles, the sale of the North American operations of Mayflower plc, the sale of Monona Wire Corporation, and the merger of Modine’s aftermarket division with Transpro, which was awarded the Middle Market Deal of the Year by The M&A Advisor. Also, Tom served as lead-bookrunning manager for LKQ’s equity offerings and as bookrunning lead manager for the follow-on offerings of Aftermarket Technology Corp. and Commercial Vehicle Group. During 2000, Tom was based in the London office focusing on mergers and acquisitions in the Industrial sector, and he is currently based in the Milwaukee office. He also serves on the Board of the Milwaukee Symphony Orchestra. Prior to joining Baird, Tom was a Financial Analyst with Goldman, Sachs & Co, received an MBA from the University of Virginia Darden School and graduated, with honors, from Boston College.


Sandeep Singh
Senior Finance Manager – Microsoft
Corporate Financial Planning & Analysis Group

Sandeep Singh joined Microsoft in Aug 2008 as a Senior Finance Manager in Microsoft’s Corporate Financial Planning & Analysis (CFP&A) group. He is responsible for Corporate Planning and Target Setting process at a companywide level and conducting analysis for the CEO/CFO related to Microsoft’s financial strategy. Prior to Microsoft, Sandeep was an Associate with JP Morgan’s Technology, Media & Telecommunications (TMT) group in New York, providing financial advisory to East Coast Technology companies. He was also a Consultant with Siebel Systems based out of Hong Kong covering clients in the Asia Pacific region. Sandeep’s professional experience also includes tenure as a Naval Officer in the Indian Navy. Sandeep has a Masters in Business Administration (MBA) degree from the Darden Graduate School of Business and Bachelors of Science (BS) degree from the Jawaharlal Nehru University, (National Defense Academy) India. He lives with his wife and two sons in Redmond, Washington and enjoys squash, golf and the outdoors in the Pacific Northwest.
